Paderborn

Adam Mickiewicz (1798 – 1855) was the greatest Polish Romantic poet, and one of the great intellectual and literary figures of the first half of the 19th century in Europe. Through his verses, as well as his efforts as a scholar, lecturer, political activist and literary celebrity, he sought to bridge the gap between the Slavic nations and the culture of Western Europe. This selection of 27 poems focuses on the poems within Mickiewicz’s oeuvre which might be described as metaphysical.

Series Focus volume 15

This edited collection comprises twelve original research papers scrutinizing the historical dimensions of prostitution across 19th and 20th century Central, South, and East-Central Europe. Each contribution employs distinct methodological perspectives and diverse sources. Notably, this volume includes pioneering articles delineating nearly uncharted terrains in the history of prostitution in Europe, especially socialist Eastern European countries.

The essays featured in this book cover a broad spectrum of topics related to individual identity strategies and art collecting in the late modern era. They give a pan-European perspective on collecting in its various facets, encompassing the history of museums, exhibition policy, art market history, history of taste shaping and provenance research.

Ukazał się kolejny tom w serii wydawniczej „FOKUS. Neue Studien zur Geschichte Polens und Osteuropas“, prowadzonej przez CBH PAN – „Wende, Wandel, Weitermachen? Nachfragen zur Geschichtswissenschaft der 1990er Jahre in Deutschland, Polen und Europa“ (Punkt zwrotny, zmiana i co dalej? Pytania o badania historyczne w Niemczech, Polsce i Europie w latach 90. XX w.).

W serii wydawniczej „FOKUS. Neue Studien zur Geschichte Polens und Osteuropas“, prowadzonej przez CBH PAN, ukazała się kolejna książka – „Widerstand mit Briefmarken. Die polnische Oppositionsbewegung und ihre Unabhängige Post in den 1980er Jahren“ (Opór za pomocą znaczków pocztowych. Polski ruch opozycyjny i jego Poczta Niezleżna w latach 80. XX w.“ autorstwa Silke Plate. Za tę pracę autorka otrzymała w 2019 r. wyróżnienie w konkursie na Naukową Nagrodę Ambasadora RP w Berlinie w kategorii rozpraw doktorskich.

Ludwik Hirszfeld był światowej sławy badaczem, ekspertem w dziedzinie higieny i ludzkiego systemu immunologicznego. Na początku lat 50-tych – w okresie największej izolacji Polski – nominowany do Nagrody Nobla, w roku 1951 uzyskał doktorat honoris causa Uniwersytetu w Zurychu. W 1946 r. opublikował, pisana po ucieczce z getta warszawskiego, autobiografię, w której odzwierciedlają się ludzkie losy i sprzeczności XX wieku. Pochodził z rodziny żydowskiej, po pierwszej wojnie światowej przeszedł na katolicyzm.  Czuł się humanistą i Polakiem.
