had the pleasure to host the online presentation of the book

"Conscious History: Polish Jewish Historians before the Holocaust" by Prof. Natalia Aleksiun

Prof. Natalia Aleksiun is an associate professor of modern Jewish history at the Touro College Graduate School of Jewish Studies in New York. In her forthcoming book, she tells the story of a group of Jewish historians who devoted themselves to creating a sense of Polish-Jewish belonging while fighting for their ethnic minority rights in newly independent Poland after the First World War. Who were these scholars? What inspired them? How did they try to forge a community aware of its past, its cultural heritage, and its achievements? Is this story relevant to our times?
These are just a few of the questions we asked Prof. Natalia Aleksiun along with Prof. Stephan Lehnstaedt (Touro College Berlin), Prof. Marcin Wodziński (University of Wrocław) and Prof. Igor Kąkolewski (CBH PAN Berlin). The meeting was moderated by Dr. Maciej Gugała (CBH PAN Berlin).
